This town in Cheshire features a large railway junction and once hosted a major railway engineering facility. (Crewe Heritage Centre is in the old LMS railway yard). It was also home of Rolls-Royce and now produces Bentley cars. The Grade II-listed Edwardian Lyceum Theatre – which shows drama, ballet, opera, music, comedy and panto – forms central Crewe. Grade I-listed Jacobean mansion Crewe Hall (est. 1615–36) is today a hotel, restaurant and health club. Crewe’s been proposed as a new HS2 hub. It’s on the A500, A530 and A534 roads – a few miles from the M6 motorway.
